We will begin the "Advanced English Conversation Class" the last Wednesday in September. This would be September 28th!! We will begin at 20:00 in the METAS' building. We will catch up on everything that has happened throughout the summer and I will be sharing with you some new opportunities for English activities this coming year.

Our annual English Camp is one month earlier this year. The dates for the English Camp are October 14-16. The theme this year is "Wild West Weekend". Mark you calendars for this weekend in October and plan to get your registration in earlier to reserve a spot. There will be more information concerning the English Camp weekend coming in the next few weeks.

In this workshop we will be learning about the tribes of the Ohio Valley, watch a movie about Tecumseh “the last great warrior of the Shawnee”, the Battle of Fallen Timbers, listen to Native American Music, learn about Native American Indian words used today, enjoy some Native American recipes, and make a “dream catcher”. It is a full morning in English and an excellent opportunity to learn more about the Native American culture of the Ohio Valley region.

The next English Saturday will be February 19th at the METAS Guadalajara building. Our topic will be "LOVE, LOVE, SWEET LOVE". We´ll look at some traditional love ballads, learn about the history of Valetine´s Day, talk about the Five Love Languages, and enjoy some yummy romantic foods (no idea where that one is going yet, but sounds like it fits the topic). Reserve the date on your calendar.

Greetings my friends,

I want to begin by wishing each of you a very, very HAPPY NEW YEAR, and may you experience a wonderful and fulfilling year in 2011. I hope part of your plan for 2011 is to continue with your English partice and improvement. I wanted to remind you that we will begin meeting again as an advanced conversation class on January 12, this coming Wednesday. We will meet from 19:30 unto 21:00. I look forward to seeing all of you here at the METAS building this Wednesday.

Several people have expressed an interest in having a conversation class during the morning or early afternoon. If you would like to participate in an advance conversation class, but cannot attend on Wednesday afternoon, please tell me a day and time that would work better for you. If there are enough people interested in meeting during the day, and we can find a day that works well for a number of people, I am willing to beginning a conversation class during the day as well. Please, let me know your interest.

We will listen to live Christmas music performed with traditional country musical instruments. Sing traditional country Christmas carols. Make a country Christmas craft or two. Sample some traditional country Christmas treats!

La Asociación METAS ha abierto el periodo de inscripción para apuntarse este año al campamento de inglés. Como en años anteriores, se celebrará en el campamento Peña de Horeb (Sacedón, Guadalajara) del 12 al 14 de noviembre de 2010.

El tema propuesto es "Two Toledos", aprovechando la visita de un grupo de personas de la zona de Toledo, Ohio, EEUU. Como en anteriores campamentos, habrá varios talleres y sesiones de conversación y muchas actividades divertidas...

October Workshop: A is for APPLES

Our first English Saturday is going to be Oct 2, the first Saturday in October. The theme is going to be "A is for APPLES". We are going to talk about Johnny Appleseed. Eat apples with carmel sauce and apple crisp. Make a craft with apples or something with apples. And since Oct 2 is the first Peanut's Comic strip release we are going to add a lot of humor to the workshop by talking about the Peanut's Comic strip series (Charlie Brown) and its influence and depiction of American culture.

Advanced conversation class

I would like to begin our first advanced conversation class on Wednesday, Septmeber 1st at 7:30 in the METAS building. I know some of you won't be ready to start yet, but those who are anxious to continue using and improving their English can begin on this date. We will do the same schedule as last year, Wednesday afternoon at 7:30. So if you can't come on Sept. 1, please plan on coming on Sept 8.

This year to help cover the cost of the METAS building we are asking each participant to donate five (5) euros a class, This will help us pay for the lights, air conditioning, paper, and other materials. You can donate each time you come to class or if you prefer you can donate for one month at a time. If you can't afford to contribute to the class at this time because of some financial difficult please talk to me and we can make other arrangements. I really don't want someone to not come because of financial difficulties.

I really am looking forward to working with you and chatting with you in English again this year. I hope the majority of you can come and share about your exciting summer on Sept 1 at 7:30.

La Asociación METAS Guadalajara también ofrece actividades y talleres en el Centro Joven de Guadalajara (C/Cádiz,2-4 tfno. 949247770).

Estos talleres son totalmente en inglés y están relacionados con la cultura norteamericana, por lo que pueden ser de gran interés para todo aquel que quiera mejorar y practicar su inglés.

Aula de lectura internacional

Hemos creado un punto de encuentro entre las lenguas que nos rodean con libros en distintos idiomas para profundizar en el conocimiento de los mismos. Así, ofrecemos la opción no sólo de leer en el propio local, sino que está en desarrollo un sistema de préstamo bibliotecario para poder utilizar los libros en casa. Entre los libros de los que de momento disponemos, se encuentran ejemplares en español, inglés, alemán y estamos trabajando para ampliarlo al francés y al árabe, de modo que aceptamos vuestras aportaciones para este proyecto, siempre y cuando se adecuen a las necesidades y servicios del centro.

We are creating a place where you can discover books from many different languages. Here you can improve your opportunity to read and to learn in a different language. We are offering you the opportunity to either read here in the International Reading Room (IRR) or you can borrow a book from the IRR and enjoy it in the comfort of your own home. Right now in the IRR we have books in Spanish, English, and German and we are working to expand our collection to include books in French, Romanian, and Arabic. If you would like to help us expand our collection of international books, we welcome your contribution to the Metas´ Association International Reading Room. Different cultural aspects include language, customs, religions, clothing, food, festivals, and so much more.
